Eliminate industrial odors from public utilities.
Local municipalities and governments face significant odor control challenges from wastewater and solid waste management. The smells produced from collecting, transporting, storing, and processing waste can creep into nearby residential and commercial areas – causing unwanted attention to operations usually kept in the background.
Ecosorb® products are uniquely positioned to offer municipal odor control solutions, because of its effectiveness removing a broad spectrum of odors. From beginning to end, product to equipment, Ecosorb can tailor a complete odor control system for waste management in any community.
Benefits of Ecosorb
Natural
Ecosorb uses the natural power of plant oils to remove industrial odors.
Safe
Non-toxic, non-hazardous, biodegradable, non-flammable, and no harmful VOCs.
Effective
Proven by independent and customer labs to reduce volatile emissions.
Complete
Custom formulations for all areas of public works, from wastewater to landfills to composting.
Solid Waste
Governments are tasked with handling a large amount of solid waste from landfills, sludge and solid waste treatment plants, composting facilties, and more. By nature, these facilties produce foul odors that are often offensive to workers and residents in the community. Ecosorb products offer natural municipal odor control solutions that have been proven to mitigate solid waste odors.
Landfills
When transport vehicles dump their loads, significant odors are released – a problem solved by applying Ecosorb products through oscillating fan systems.
Composting
Composting material is rich in organic matter, making it valuable fertilizer. But the reuse of this material comes at a price. Transporting, storing, and processing decomposing material creates powerful malodors — often drifting into nearby residential areas and office parks.
Ecosorb products — either evaporated or atomized with nozzles or humidifying fans — control odors even in large composting facilities. They can be used to control malodors, either in a localized area or to surround a large area such as a landfill or composting shed. Spray Gel® is a special gel formulation of Ecosorb® that topically caps material, blocking odors from escaping into the atmosphere – an ideal solution for open-bed waste trucks, working face of landfills, and other solid/semi-solid odorous materials. Ecosorb products are also effective at controlling the nitrogenous compound odors commonly emitted from composting facilities.
Transfer Stations
Because transfer stations are used to transport residential and commercial trash, they tend to be located near neighbors … but nobody wants to smell it. Ecosorb atomization nozzles can be located directly beneath the ceiling of these stations over load-out and tipping areas to control waste handling smells. As a side benefit, our high volume atomization systems suppress dust along with odor.
Wastewater
Controlling wastewater odors is one of the most challenging aspects of its treatment. Bad smells from municipal treatment plants cause complaints from nearby communities and parks. Odors also wear on plant workers, decreasing their job satisfaction and lowering retention rates. Left uncontrolled, odor issues can bring negative attention and damage the reputation of wastewater plants and cause added stress on local governments.
Each plant has its own unique problem areas, all which can be solved with Ecosorb’s municipal odor control products.
Headworks and Primary Treatment
Hydrogen sulfide is a serious issue in wastewater treatment plants. Fogging systems installed at the bar screens and digesters solve the problem. In some cases Ecosorb products can be diluted with plant water for more cost-effective operations.
Wastewater Septage Dumping
Raw septage from haulers can present odor problems to plants that otherwise have their industrial emissions under control. Fan or nozzle atomization systems posted near the unloading point and vented or open downstream locations provide effective odor removal.
Biosolids and Sludge Processes
Because basins for activated sludge can be large and uncovered, smells are free to drift into nearby areas. Our experienced engineers develop custom Ecosorb delivery systems to neutralize odors and prevent them from affecting neighbors.
Clarifiers, Digesters & Collection System Pump Stations
Odors could be coming from raw wastewater exposed to air at the influent pump station and primary clarifier stage. Odorous hydrogen sulfide gas is also formed from the digestion of sludge.
How to Use
At landfills and composting facilities, Ecosorb Spray Gel can be used to cap material and keep odors from escaping. Atomization and vaporization systems are also effective at removing odors from transfer stations and solid waste storage areas.
In wastewater facilities, most opt for vaporization systems, where ducting carries Ecosorb product in submicron form to the source of the odor, neutralizing it on contact. These systems can be added in almost any location to combat every odor source.
