Get rid of odors at gasoline and fuel refineries.
Refine Away Odors
Oil refineries and petrochemical plants create strong nuisance odors from refining crude oil into gasoline and jet fuel. Sulfides, mercaptans, and hydrocarbon compounds are some impurities removed during the refining process and can cause smells described as oily rags, rotten eggs, or rotten cabbage. Odors generated from these industrial compounds cause concern from local air boards and the public.
Ecosorb® odor removal products may be used in many refinery areas, including water treatment facilities, sludge ponds, sulfur recovery units, and API separators.
Typical applications of Ecosorb include:
- Storage tanks
- Settling ponds
- Sludge ponds
- Oil/water separation
- Wastewater
- Tank cleaning
- Process odors
Benefits of Ecosorb
Natural
Ecosorb uses the natural power of plant oils to remove odors from oil and petroleum refining.
Safe
Non-toxic, non-hazardous, biodegradable, and no harmful VOCs.
Effective
Proven by independent and customer labs to reduce volatile emissions.
Complete
Odor control systems can work for all refinery areas, from storage tanks to sludge ponds to processing.
Oil Storage
When tanks are filled and drained, odorous air is released into the atmosphere. We design systems that capture and remove odors from escaping air. Duct work moves odor vapors to a knockout tank to recover leftover materials. The remaining air flows into a treatment tank where Ecosorb atomization or vaporization systems remove odors before releasing into the atmosphere.

Refining Settling Pond
High pressure pumping systems can be used to disperse Ecosorb products over settling ponds – a common source of refinery odors. We work with you to find the best dilution rate for odor control within compliance requirements.
Refinery Sludge Ponds
Vaporization systems have proven effective in applying Ecosorb products during the dredging of sludge ponds.
How to Use
To remove odors during tank cleaning and maintenance operations, portable dispersion systems can be used in the immediate work area. Ecosorb products can be directly injected into vents and may be used as a substitute scrubbing solution in some applications.
