Sulfurous Metalcasting Odors

Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is a common gas found in metal casting facilities. Ecosorb reacts with sulfur dioxide to produce an organic salt, removing the odor.

Air Quality

In laboratory testing, Ecosorb metalcasting odor removal products drastically reduced sulfur-type odors to acceptable air quality. They were found to be so effective in contact testing that they reduced sulfur dioxide levels from 26 ppm/v to less than 0.01 ppm/v immediately after application. (The level of effectiveness is determined by the odor concentration, type of equipment used, and quantity of Ecosorb products dispersed.)

Lost Foam Process Odors

Molten metal is poured into foam molds, burning away the foam and creating styrene gas. By running atomized Ecosorb 206 into the exhaust stream, gas odors can be eliminated.

Foundry Emissions, Dust, and Odor Control

How to Use

Throughout a foundry, Ecosorb metalcasting odor removal products can be applied to remove smells from triethylamine (TEA) and dimethylethylamine (DMEA). Common cold box catalysts are also controlled through Ecosorb airborne treatment. When combined with the non-toxic, organic acid buffer of Ecosorb products, these amines form organic salts that are easily removed from the atmosphere.

Ecosorb Additives also have a place in foundries. In binders, shell resin, and cold box resins, these additives have been found to remove process odors and those from pouring, cooling, and shakeout operations.
